Lenovo is doing a significant rebrand of Motorola – from dropping the “Motorola” name itself (in favor of “Lenovo Moto”) to dropping the Moto X as a flagship. The new Moto Z can feature a new modular design, that among different things are going to be simply customise the rear.
Several backs were photographed – from “ballistic nylon” (like the Moto X Force) through leather and some of wood choices.
Motorola’s modular Project Ara stayed at Google once Lenovo bought the company, however it appears the new owner interested to modular designs.
This one is different from Ara’s and LG’s, the modules for the Moto Z cover the entire back and communicate over Pogo pins (visible in this leak).
Some modules can simply perform like snap-on covers, others can add battery, speakers (by JBL) or camera (by Hasselblad). The tech World conference starts in three days and that we expect the Moto Z can create its 1st official look there.
