Facebook to launch a new app for video creators

Facebook has said that it will be launching a standalone app for its Facebook Live functionality in the coming months. But before that, the social media giant will be making the feature available for its Mentions app via an update.

While announcing the news during its annual online video conference VidCon on Friday, Facebook’s product director Daniel Danker said that the app will not only give users access to Facebook Live, but will also come with a new ‘Community’ tab. The tab will let video creators connect with their fans across different Facebook platforms like Messenger, Instagram and the main Facebook app itself.

There will also be a new ‘Live Creative Kit’ that’ll allow creators to add introductions, outros, custom stickers and frames in their broadcasts. The app is said to arrive later this year.

The company has not yet given a particular time frame. We might also see this feature being tested with limited users inside the Mentions app, before it’s officially rolled out.

Back in March this year, Facebook expanded its live video feature beyond smartphones and brought it to desktops. To use it, users just have to click on the ‘Live video’ option from the top of their News Feed. Following that, they have to add a description and choose the target audience.
Facebook has also added a feature that makes it easier to use streaming software or external hardware, when going live via a PC.
Furthermore, users can share their screens, insert graphics, switch cameras and use professional equipments for live videos as well. They get the option for broadcasting to Facebook Groups , Events and the Pages they manage and follow. For gamers, the feature gives them the ability to easily stream PC gameplay to friends and followers.
